At the younger ages (U5 and U6), there was no referee, but a coach from
each team was allowed on the field. This allowed us to give instructions
during the game, as shown in these photos from 2000 and 2001.
Sometimes the players disagreed with my instructions, so I had to lay
down the law.
Who wouldn't be intimidated by this fearsome lineup?
At the younger ages, there wasn't always a lot of spacing, resulting in a
phenomenon known as "herd ball." Wherever the ball went, the boys went.
In the future I probably shouldn't stand like this. It makes my butt look
fat.
The goalie would occasionally get bored during the game.
The players always paid attention to our expert game analysis.
On hot days it was important to find a cool place to rest.
Coach Gary and I are showing off our mad coaching skills. I even have a clipboard!
Our success can be attributed to the strong discipline we instilled in
our players.
